An Exciting Opportunity to Lead a Children's Home
We are looking for an experienced, passionate and highly motivated Registered Manager to lead one of our children's residential homes.
We are looking for a manager who genuinely wants to create an outstanding home for children and young people — someone who can provide strong leadership, develop a stable and motivated staff team and maintain consistently high standards of care.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the home, safeguarding, staff management, regulatory compliance and, most importantly, achieving positive outcomes for the children in our care.
The Role
As Registered Manager, you will:
Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the children's home.
Provide strong leadership, direction and support to the staff team.
Create a safe, nurturing, structured and child-centred environment.
Ensure the home operates in accordance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
Lead the home through Ofsted registration, monitoring and inspections as applicable.
Maintain excellent standards of safeguarding and ensure children's welfare remains at the centre of all decision-making.
Oversee care plans, placement plans, risk assessments and behaviour/support plans.
Manage referrals and contribute to careful placement matching.
Oversee incidents, safeguarding concerns, complaints, missing-from-care episodes and statutory notifications.
Recruit, supervise, develop and retain a high-quality staff team.
Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals and performance management.
Ensure staff training and development requirements are maintained.
Manage staffing rotas and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
Work closely with social workers, local authorities, families, education providers, health professionals and other agencies.
Oversee Regulation 44 recommendations and complete Regulation 45 quality-of-care reviews.
Maintain accurate, professional and inspection-ready records.
Monitor the quality of care and continually identify opportunities to improve the service.
Work closely with the Responsible Individual and Directors to develop the home and achieve excellent outcomes.
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who:
Have significant experience within children's residential care.
Have previous experience as a Registered Manager within a children's home.
Have strong knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
Have excellent knowledge of safeguarding and safer working practices.
Understand Ofsted expectations and can confidently prepare a home for inspection.
Have experience managing and developing residential childcare staff.
Understand effective referral assessment and placement matching.
Can demonstrate strong leadership, organisation and decision-making skills.
Are confident working with local authorities and multidisciplinary professionals.
Are passionate about achieving meaningful outcomes for children and young people.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold, or be prepared and eligible to complete, the relevant Level 5 leadership and management qualification for residential childcare, or an accepted equivalent.
Previous Ofsted Registered Manager experience would be highly desirable.
What We Are Looking For
We don't simply want someone to manage paperwork and rotas.
We are looking for a visible and involved leader who will know the children, understand the staff team and take ownership of the quality of the home.
You should be someone who can build a positive culture, maintain professional standards, identify problems early and take appropriate action.
You will be supported by the Responsible Individual and Directors, while being trusted to lead the home effectively and confidently.
What We Offer
Competitive salary of £50,000–£60,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
Opportunity to discuss a performance-related bonus.
Support from the Responsible Individual and Directors.
Ongoing training and professional development.
Opportunity to play a significant role in the development of a growing children's residential care provider.
A supportive organisation where children's outcomes and quality of care are the priority.
Opportunity for career progression as the organisation develops.
Working Requirements
This is a full-time management position requiring a strong and consistent presence within the home.
The Registered Manager may also be required to participate in an on-call arrangement and provide management support outside normal working hours when necessary.
The successful applicant will be subject to safer recruitment procedures, including an Enhanced DBS check, references, employment-history verification, qualification checks and other appropriate pre-employment checks.
Appointment will be subject to the candidate meeting the suitability requirements applicable to managing a children's residential home and successfully completing the relevant Ofsted registration process.
